Brewing Brilliance Behind the Counter

When Barn’s Coffee — one of Saudi Arabia’s most iconic coffee chains — approached us with the need for a comprehensive barista training video series, we saw more than a production challenge. We saw an opportunity to elevate training content into a cinematic experience that’s as rich as the coffee culture it represents.

Our mission: produce a structured, brand-aligned, and visually compelling video series that trains baristas in Arabic, English, and Urdu.

Scouting Locations: From Branches to the Training Center

Every compelling video begins with finding the right canvas. Before any gear was unpacked or shot list finalized, our team visited multiple Barn’s locations across Jeddah.

We evaluated both operational stores and training facilities, scouting for:

  • Natural lighting potential
  • Background textures and color palettes
  • Sound control for dialogue shots
  • Staff workflows that could influence blocking

After assessing the options, we selected one flagship branch to represent the customer-facing side of the Barn’s experience and the official training center for controlled, instructional segments.

“This groundwork gave us a clear understanding of what needed to be enhanced through decor, lighting, and camera angles — especially at the training center, where we ultimately built out a custom set.”

AI Moodboards: Visualizing the Vision Before the Shoot

To accelerate the creative process and maintain clarity across departments, we used AI tools to generate moodboards during the pre-production phase.

These moodboards helped:

  • Align visual tone between client, director, and art team
  • Explore different combinations of colors, textures, and lighting
  • Simulate framing for drinks, machines, and barista interactions

By leveraging generative AI, we rapidly prototyped dozens of looks — some inspired by Barn’s branding, others by broader coffee aesthetics — then refined the moodboard into a cohesive visual language for the entire series.

The Challenge: Streamlining Multilingual Complexity

Producing 200+ videos covering drink preparation, barista etiquette, hygiene, and service standards — across three languages — was no small feat.

Each drink had to be filmed in all available sizes, ensuring consistency across every variant. This meant long filming sessions and meticulous scheduling — yet, thanks to our streamlined shooting and post-production processes, the project stayed remarkably on track.

“Efficiency was key. From scripting to Frame.io reviews, everything was engineered for clarity and collaboration.”

Production Design: Turning Dull Spaces Into Brand Stories

The filming took place in two locations:

  • A Barn’s Coffee branch in Jeddah
  • The Barn’s Training Center, which we creatively transformed.

To reflect the Barn’s brand ethos, we redesigned the training center interior — adding texture, vibrant colors, and wall patterns inspired by one of Barn’s most visually unique branches. The set design not only elevated the production quality, but it also gave the training content a more immersive and aspirational tone.

Light, Camera, Precision

Lighting played a critical role in crafting the mood and clarity of each training module. We used a combination of soft LED panels, practical lights, and diffused spotlights, carefully adjusting for different environments and drink shots.

Behind the Scenes: Human Touch in a Structured Workflow

While the project was driven by precise planning, it was filled with warm moments — like baristas sharing coffee tips off-camera, and set designers experimenting with wood textures

Post-Production: Multilingual Mastery & Remote Collaboration

Using Frame.io, we shared draft edits across three languages. The client’s team reviewed, commented, and approved — all within a centralized cloud workspace.

Our editors worked in parallel across three language tracks, syncing voiceovers, subtitles, and branding elements — resulting in a final library of 201 training videos.

Why This Matters for Coffee Brands (and Beyond)

In the F&B industry, training videos often fall into the trap of being dull, generic, or inconsistent. But with the right creative approach, they can become powerful onboarding tools that reflect the brand’s voice and vision.
